Dealing With Romantic Rejection

It could be on the first date or when asking for a date, it could be after years together or before the relationship really gets going, but no matter when it happens, sometimes it just happens. Rejection is never fun, but sometimes it’s reality, and when it is, here are three things to keep in mind when dealing with it.

There are plenty of fish in the sea. It may sound cliché, but it’s true. Let’s look at the numbers: There are 7.5 billion people on the planet. That’s Billion, with a B. Sure, they don’t all live in your neighborhood, but odds are there’s more than one perspective partner nearby and thanks to online dating it’s never been easier to connect with just about anyone.

It’s not you, it’s them. Take a moment to think that you may not have been the problem. Everyone has issues to deal with, and sometimes a rejection has little or nothing to do with you. A bit of empathy goes a long way in taking the sting out of rejection.

Or… Maybe it is you. You’re probably not perfect, but while you certainly don’t have to fit everyone’s standards it doesn’t hurt to take stock on occasion. Ask a trusted friend what they think, you may not have to change anything about yourself but it helps to know of any quarks that could be deal-breakers for others.
